Interior of Blue Moosque as the Turks call it. It’s also called Sultan Ahmed Mosque.
After losing to Persia in 1600s, the Sultan Ahmed decided to build this Blue Mosque (to the style of Hagia Sophia) to show the Ottoman power was still powerful. We can visit the mosque for free. But the infidels, I mean non Muslim tourists are taken to a different section inside the mosque. But we can still see the interior. We’re just not allowed to go inside the prayer area and soil their beautiful carpets.
The Blue Mosque is beautiful because of it is uniquely 100% Islamic. It is serene and decorated with Islamic art. It looks well maintained. I still prefer Hagia Sophia more because of its long and mixed history though it’s more run down and gritty but that’s part of its charm.
